Serbia lost their first game in the group 0-1 to Ghana, but they then went on
to cause a huge upset with their next game; 0-1 win against Germany. A goal at
the thirty-eight minute mark by Milan Jovanovic was enough to give them the win.
Germany probably had the most chances and possession during the game but Serbia
were able to fend them off. Serbia will be looking for a win against Australia
in order to ensure their progression to the next stage - although a draw could
see them through as well.
Australia got hammered in their first game against Germany by 4-0. They came back
from this humiliating defeat though and managed a 1-1 result against Ghana. Australia
were the first to go ahead in the game with a shot on target by Brett Holman,
but Ghana later came back with penalty. This was much better football from Australia,
but their chances of moving onto the next round are slim. Winning will probably
not be enough to see them through and they will be depending on a favourable result
in the other Group D match as well.
By the end of Wednesday Group D should be settled and we will know who is going
to progress to the next stage of the competition. This match between Australia
and Serbia is sure to be an exciting one as both teams do all they can
to increase their chances of qualification. Make sure that you don't miss out
