South Africa will be looking forward to wrap up the two match series against
Bangladesh this to register a 2-0 victory over their Asian rivals. Bangladesh
showed their cricketing credentials to put up a fine fight in the first test
match and will be hoping to register their first ever victory against a top
test playing nation this time around.

The first test match turned out to be a close affair after both the sides struggled
under seaming conditions in Dhaka. Bangladesh coming on the back of a desperately
disappointing tour of New Zealand stuck to the task at hand from the
word go and did an excellent job of rattling the South Africans early on. However,
an inspired bowling spell from Kallis in the second match turned things around
as Bangladesh fell a good fifty odd runs short of a competitive total. There
were a lot of positive for Bangladesh though and the inspiring form of fast
bowler Shahadat Hossain will come as big shot in the arm for the struggling
Asian side. Hossain picked up six wickets in the South African first innings
to bundle the tourists out for a measly 170 and was impressive again in the
second innings. The batting though needs to be improved and only Junaid Siddique
put up a fight and score more than fifty for the Bangladeshis in the test match.
Nevertheless, the performance would have come as an encouraging sign for Coach
Dave Whatmore after some rather forgettable outings in New Zealand and the Asian
tigers will be hoping to go one step further in this test.
Despite their win, South Africa will be slightly concerned with their batting
form against a mediocre Bangladeshi bowling attack. South Africa were
shot out for 170 in the first innings and made heavy weather of a small target
in the second innings. However, there is no shortage of talent in the South
African batting ranks and the likes of Amla, Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith
will be hoping to redeem themselves this time around. The bowling attack came
out trumps in both the innings with Morkel and Kallis being the standout performers.
The current South African bowling line up is arguably the finest pace battery
operating in World Cricket at the moment and it came as no surprise when they
rattled the Bangladeshi lineup with searing pace and bounce throughout the match
on a dead wicket. South Africa won their last series in the sub continent against
Pakistan four months earlier and will be hoping to do the same with a victory
in the second test starting on the 29th of February 2008 in Chittagong.
