It will be the challenge of North vs South when Bangalore
Royal Challengers take on Delhi Daredevils in the Monday match of
the Indian premier League. Both these sides are currently not within the semifinal
qualification zone and will be going gung ho this Monday for different reasons
altogether. While Delhi have qualification in their minds, Bangalore Royal Challengers
are already out of contention and will be hoping to prove Vijay Mallya
point or two with a victory.

Delhi Daredevils have slipped up in recent weeks after starting strongly and
a run of bad form has seen them win just one of their last five matches. Delhi
are now fifth on the table with five wins from ten matches and will need to
pick up their form if they are to contest the likes of the Mumbai Indians and
the Knightriders for a place in the semifinals. Delhi were rather unlucky last
time around against Punjab when they were harshly dealt a defeat due to rain.
Delhi looked to be in imperious form at 80/1 after eight overs before rain interrupted
play. In a match cut down to eleven overs, it was a last ball six hit by Mahela
Jayawardena that clinched a narrow victory for the Kings XI outfit. While Delhi
have been losing matches, the good form of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir
will inspire them. Gambhir in particular has looked impressive in recent weeks
and much will be expected from him when he takes the field against the Bangalore
Royal Challengers. Defeat here could see the Daredevils tumbling out of the
IPL chase and they will be determined to prove themselves with a strong display
against the Royal Challengers this time around.
Bangalore Royal Challengers on the other hand have been found wanting for large
periods during the IPL and it comes as no surprise that they are stuck up at
the bottom end of the table. The Royal Challengers have come up crops against
the bets out there and things certainly look dull from their perspective. The
outfit from Bangalore was dealt a trashing last time around when the Rajasthan
Royal Challengers booked a semifinal place with a thumping win against them.
The Royal Challengers have come under sever criticism in recent weeks for their
rather timid shows and much of the blame will have to be taken by the likes
of Jacques Kallis and Misbah Ul Haq who have not proven their worth at all in
this tournament. Rahul Dravid however has been the lone shining spot for the
Royal Challengers and it was his thirty-six balls seventy-five that leant a
sense of respectability to the Royal Challengers total against the Rajasthan
Royals. The Bangalore Royals Challengers are already out of semifinal contention
having lost eight of their ten matches so far and will be hoping that they can
salvage some pride with a strong performance against the Delhi Daredevils this
coming Monday 19th May 2008 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
