The sixth game of the Champions League T20 to be played in South Africa
this year will see Royal Challengers Bangalore take on the West Indian
side of Guyana. This is a group B encounter and will be played at Centurion.
Bangalore has been only one of the three teams even to have qualified for both
the editions of the tournament in 2009 and now in 2010. They will, thus
have the experience of playing in this tournament, though the conditions will
be mightily different from what they were earlier. In 2009, the tournament was
played in India on slow and low tracks and Bangalore had struggled to get a
move on.
Click for Live Score Card of Bangalore Royal Challengers Vs GuyanaIn 2009, the IPL had been played in South Africa and Bangalore had done remarkably
well which should give them a bit of advantage. However, what they need
to be wary of is the fact that the complacency may set in and cause unnecessary
issues later. This will be one of the easier games for the side, and hence the
Bangalore team will need to win it to make a strong move towards the knock-outs.
The batting will rely on the likes of Robin Uthappa and Jacques Kallis,
but one gets the sense that Cameron White could play a huge role in the middle-order.
White is one of the best batsmen in this format of the game and could be the
player to look out for.
Amongst the bowlers, Dale Steyn and Praveen Kumar will get the ball to swing
around in South Africa and that could cause problems to the opposition.
Guyana is being led by Ramnaresh Sarwan, but it is the youngsters who
will need the team through to the latter stages. While Guyana may want
to emulate what the Trinidad and Tobago side had done in the previous edition,
they will understand that apart from Jonathon Foo, they do not exist too many
specialist T20 players. Sarwan himself is under a bit of a pressure for being
denied the West Indian contract and will look to take this opportunity to make
the most of it and prove the West Indies cricket board wrong.
American cricketer, Lennox Cush and opening batsmen Travis Dowlin will
need to perform their role to perfection, while the bowling will depend on Narsingh
Deonarine, apart from some other unknow faces.
For now, Bangalore goes into the game as favourites, but one can never tell
with a West Indian team in this format of the game.
