Bangladesh will be eyeing a first ever test victory over any
major international cricket side when they South Africa in the first
of the two test match series to be held between February and March. Bangladesh
have been in poor form of late and with critics heating up on their inclusion
in test playing elite, Bangladesh will be hard pressed to enforce a good result
over the inform side in World Cricket right now.

Bangladesh have struggled in the pace against good quality
pace attack and skipper Mohammad Ashraful knows that a good batting performance
is imperative for any success against a rampaging South African bowling. Bangladesh
come into this series on the back of some very ordinary performances against
New Zealand where they shot down in under three days of test cricket in both
the matches to suffer huge defeats. This test match will be among the very last
played by Mohammad Rafique, who is due to retire from international cricket
after this tour. Rafique has been an honest servant of Bangladeshi cricket from
their inception in test cricket and the left arm spinner will be hoping to cap
up a wonderful carrier with a win over South Africa in the first test in Mirpur.
South Africa on the other hand, have enjoyed contrasting success
over the past half year and despite the retirement of Shaun Pollock, they still
have one of the most potent bowling attacks all around. The emergence of Dale
Steyn as a top performer has further boosted the South African ranks and despite
the unavailability of Monde Zondeki through injury, the Proteas look
good enough to out bowl any side in world cricket at the moment. Herschelle
Gibbs has also been dropped as consistent performances by opener Jimmy Duminy
has helped him get the nod ahead of the dasher Gibbs while Neil McKenzie and
Andre Nel have been passed fit for South Africa's 14-man Test squad for the
tour of Bangladesh. South Africa have established themselves as one of the top
bowling attacks in the world as proved by their recent dismantling of the West
Indies and they will be hoping to continue their recent success with a win over
Bangladesh in the first test match starting on the 22nd of February 2008 at
the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
