Bangladesh will be hoping to secure a consolation victory in
the third one Dayer against South Africa in Mirpur this coming Friday
14th March 2008. South Africa have already secured an unbeatable 2-0 lead in
this series and given the run of things, it is indeed hard to imagine Bangladesh
getting something from this final game of this three match ODI Series between
these two very unevenly matched sides.
South Africa secured the series last time around when they hammered Bangladesh
to a seven wicket victory with well over ten overs to spare. Chasing 173 to win,
South Africa did face up to a poor start when they lost three early wickets for
only sixty runs. However, a 119 run unbeaten stand between JP Duminy and Ab De
Villiers did stem the rot and the match ended up with a comfortable seven wicket
victory for South Africa. South Africa have been in pine form ever since their
World Cup semifinal exit and have since won their eleven ODI games from twelve.
Victory here will help them move up to the top of the ODI rankings and that will
be something Graeme Smith and his troops will have sight on this coming Friday.
Bangladesh on the other hand, have had a story of doom and despair so far this
year and things look to be going from bad to worse for the Asian outfit. Bangladesh
have lost their last ten matches on the trot and the fact that they are unable
to make a fight out of those matches will be troubling skipper batsman Mohammad
Ashraful no end. Bangladesh's decision to play three spinners has backfired in
a bad way and much needs to be done if they are to improve their current form.
On the other hand, Andre Nel has been brilliant for South Africa as proved by
his wonderful 4/27 spell in the second one dayer .Nel however has been sidelined
from the test matches in India and he will be hoping to prove the selectors wrong
with another vintage performance against Bangladesh this coming Friday 14th March
2008 in Mirpur.
