Zimbabwe will face Bangladesh in the second ODI of the five match fifty
overs series at Dhaka on Thursday. Zimbabwe won the first game of the series
to lead it 1-0, and it will now depend on the Bangladeshis to make a comeback
in what was said to be a series which they should have won very easily.
Click for Live Score Card of Bangladesh vs ZimbabweThe first game was a concerted effort on the part of the Zimbabweans to see
them win. Of course there were a couple of standout performances that meant
that the tourists were propped up by them, but overall, it looked to be a team
effort. Elton Chigumbura was the obvious pick amongst the tourists, as
he first ripped open the Bangladeshi top-order with a three-wicket haul, and
then went onto score an unbeaten 60 to seal the win. The hosts will now need
to make special plans for him as they would have to for Stuart Matsikenyeri,
who remained unbeaten on 47, which follows up the 167 runs that he had scored
against Kenya at an average of almost 84.
Charles Coventry was the one who arrested the Zimbabwean decline with a 32
in the game, and the opposition would remember him from the 194 that he had
scored against them in their previous series.
Kyle Jarvis, the son of former Zimbabwean Malcom Jarvis, will also look
to continue with his bowling form and get more wickets, but he will know that
on these pitches, it will be the spinners who will do most damage.
And talking of the spinners, Abdur Razzaq, who had been recalled to
the side for Bangladesh, scalped three wickets. He will look to prove a point
to both, the selectors and the ICC, after he had been called for a suspect action
earlier. Shakib al Hasan did not bowl too well in the first game, and
he will look to bowl a more attacking line and length in the second game, than
trying to control the run-scoring only. One can expect him to be amongst wickets
in the second match.
It was, however, the Bangladeshi batting that had been a major letdown. They
had a bad start to their innings and after that, apart from a Mushfiqur Rahim,
none of the batsmen did not do much well. The Bangladeshis will do well to bat
out the first few overs and then slowly build the innings, instead of going
after the bowling from the very start.
