Canada take on Zimbabwe in the 12th game of the Cricket World Cup
at the VCA in Nagpur. Both teams have yet to win a single game after having played
one game each.
Canada played against Sri Lanka and were beaten hollow. They tried their level
best to restrict the side but after the initial stoppage, the side were able
to get off to more than 330. This, coupled with the batting of Canada
ensured that the side could barely get to 122, and the Sri Lankans ran hoe winners
by 210 runs.

Zimbabwe's performance was much better. They had the Aussies on the mat by
restricting them to 65/2 in the first 20 overs. the Zimbabwean spinners managed
to hold the Aussie batsmen by the scruff of their neck and by the time the Aussies
got away, they could manage only 265. Zimbabwe then id reasonably well by getting
to a decent total - while never challenging the side they were able to get a
move on.
Now, for this game, there will need to be changes made to the side because
one got the feeling that the best 11 wasnt played by either side. For one, the
Zimbabwean side needs to get in Greg Lamb, a player who has had the best
of times. However, the injury issues have derailed a part of his career and
he will look to get fit as soon as it is possible and once that is done, he
should be a shoo-into the side.
For Canada, it is the batting of John Davison and Rizwan Cheema which
will be the key. For one, Davison will look to overcome his form issues and
get as many runs as possible in the game - especially given that he will be
playing the spin bowlers from Zimbabwe. On the other hand, one gets the sense
that he may be demoted down the order as opening the innings does not sound
like his bag of tricks, especially not at the age of 40.
Amongst the rest of the batting, Cheema comes in far too low down the order
and one would want him to come up. this will be possible, especially if the
Canada side can get to a decent start.
Zimbabwe will be favourites to win this game though it will be interesting
to see what the Canadians can throw up on to them. Elton Chigumbura and Ashish
Bagai will lead the side.
