The
Chennai Super Kings will play the Delhi Daredevils in the 56th game of the Indian Premier League this season. The match will be a home game for the Super Kings
and will be played at the MA Chidamabaram stadium in Chepauk in Chennai.
The two teams are interestingly poised in the points table. The Super Kings are
second and have almost qualified for the last four stage, having won seven out
of their 11 games. Another win in the last three matches should see them through
to the next round.

However, the Chennai Super Kings would be wanting much more. For one,
they would hope to build on the momentum that they have got. Secondly, there
is an added incentive to finish in the top two because of the new rules that
have come about. In fact, if the sides finish in the top two, they will end
up directly qualifying for the Champions League T20, without having to worry
about anything else.
On the other hand, Delhi Daredevils have only four wins from their 11
games. Another three games to go, even if they win all the three matches, they
will be left with only 14 points and that is no guarantee for qualification
to the next round. 14 is also the number of points that Chennai and Kolkata
both have currently and that will only mean that there is hardly any chance
for Delhi to qualify even with a win.
That said, whether Delhi can win the game is a big question mark by itself.
For one, they have lost the services of their captain, Virender Sehwag.
In his place, there could be a number of players who could become the captain
like Dave Warner, Venugopal Rao amongst the others, but the one player who could
be appointed a skipper will be Irfan Pathan, who has clearly been struggling
with his bowling form. And lesser said the better about his batting.
The Daredevils need to do much more with their batting. In the absence of Sehwag,
the onus will be on the likes of Warner and company at the top of the innings
and the rest of the middle order including the likes of Venugopal Rao.
Chennai will hope that the likes of Murali Vijay can keep going even
as the rest of the batting has been doing well.
