A rampant Chennai Super Kings team will face a Wayamba side that was beaten soundly in their opening game against the Warriors. The game plan that
the Sri Lankans had conceived did not work out as they lost early wickets. The
Chennai Super Kings, however, had a great outing in their first game against
a Central Stags side which did not prove to be much of a competition.
Click for Live Score Card of Chennai Super Kings Vs Wayamba Elevens The CSK bowlers were very effective and all of them were among the wickets.
The fast bowlers enjoyed the extra bounce at Durban and also the movement in
the air. The spinners too used the bounce picked up four wickets among them.
Doug Bollinger, a bowler who can extract bounce from any surface, will
be more than a handful in South Africa and Wayamba would have to be careful
against him.
Mahela Jayawardene, Wayamba's best player, went out as early as the first over
against the Warriors and this spoilt their plans to pile on a big score. He
will have to fire this time if they have any hopes of setting a big score or
chasing down a target. Jeevantha Kulathunga played a wonderful counter attacking
innings and will look to continue his good form into this game as well.
Ajantha Mendis will be the key for the Sri Lankans. He along with Rangana Herath stifled the Warriors run rate. Though their efforts proved valiant
in the end, they were the only bowlers to come out of the game with any credit.
The fast bowlers were far too expensive and the leg spin option of Kaushal Lokuarachchi
proved costly as well. It will be interesting to see how the CSK batsmen play
Mendis.
MS Dhoni would have been satisfied with young Anirudha Srikkanth. The explosive
batsman was promoted up the order and played a wonderful, attacking knock along
with Subramaniyan Badrinath and helped Chennai get back on track after
a very slow start. However, the lack of runs from Matthew Hayden is continuing
to be a problem. Lack of frequent cricket has probably hampered his style and
he would want to get back to form with a good knock against Wayamba. However,
his catching continues to be excellent and he proved with two outstanding catches
in the slips in the last game.
CSK will start the game as favorites and would want to get Mahela Jayawardene
early to keep Wayamba quiet. This is a crucial game for Wayamba Elevens
as a defeat would make it very impossible for them to qualify for the next round.
