The last match of the group stages of the Airtel Champions League will feature
the Warriors playing against the Chennai Super Kings. The match at St.
George's Park, Port Elizabeth is a virtual quarter final. The equation is clear
for the Chennai Super Kings. The Victoria Bushrangers won their game against
Wayamba and are on three wins. So, the Super Kings have to win this game to
qualify for the semi finals. They do not have to worry about the margin of victory
as their run rate is far better than that of Victoria.
Click for Live Score Card of Chennai Super Kings Vs Western Warriors A Warriors win will take them through but a loss, and by a big margin will
eliminate them out of the competition and will send Victoria into the semi finals.
However, at present their run rate is much better than that of Victoria. The
Warriors have been in tremendous form in the tournament. Their batsmen have
performed well and they have got good starts in all their games. Davey Jacobs,
the captain is their leadin run scorer with 159 runs and two brilliant half
centuries. Ashwell Prince too got back to form in their previous game
against the Stags, notching up a quick half century.
The Chennai Super Kings will consider themselves unlucky. They lost their game
against the Victoria through a super over eliminator and if not for a missed
run out chance and an over throw, they would have been sitting comfortably at
the top of the table. However, their destiny is still in their own hands, unlike
Victoria, and playing the last game will help them.
The Chennai bowling attack has been brilliant so far. They took six wickets
in the first ten overs in the first two games and swatted aside the opposition.
But an brilliant attacking innings from Aaron Finch spoilt that record in the
last game. Even Doug Bollinger, a very economical bowler, was expensive.
The decision to bowl Ravichandran Ashwin in the super over did not work and
back fired horribly. But Ashwin is the leading wicket taker in the tournament
and will try and bowl well in this game.
The Super Kings' batting also has been great. Murali Vijay is one of the leading
run scorers in the tournament and Suresh Raina played a fantastic innings
in the second game. But lack of runs from MS Dhoni should be a worry. Albie
Morkel is likely to return to the side in place of Justin Kemp., which will
add depth to their batting.
