The final of the Champions League t20 will have the Chennai Super Kings
take on the Warriors to decide which is the best club in the world. Chennai entered
the final of the tournament by beating the IPL counterparts, Royal Challengers
Bangalore, whereas the Warriors got to the finals by getting better of the South
Australian Redbacks.
Click for Live Score Card of Chennai Super Kings Vs Western WarriorsChennai's path to the finals was not a rosy one, but they have been at the
top of their game throughout the tournament. They easily beat the Wayamba and
Central Stags side, to an extent that they had the best net run-rate in the
end. They tied with the Victorian Bushrangers, but beat the Warriors to get
to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, the Super Kings were up against the Bangalore side, and
looked like they would be up against the rains as well. That would have advantaged
the Bangalore side given the side had to bat second under the rains, but the
Super Kings came up with a powerful performance to beat the Bangalore team as
well.
Speaking of the Western Warriors, they have had a good all-round show
so far. They started off with three wins from three games, including one against
the Victorian Bushrangers, but then lost their last game to the Chennai Super
Kings. They also managed to get to beyond the runs needed to qualify for the
semi-finals and went on to play the South Australians.
The South Australia v Warriors game did not live up to its billing. The batting
of Davey Jacobs took the game away from the South Australians and a 7-ball 22
from Nicky Boje got the side to 175. The South Australians were never in hunt
after the openers got out early.
In the final, the Warriors will need their bowling to come good. They will
be up against a side which has relied heavily on their batsmen and have got
huge scores due to that. Mahendra Singh Dhoni aside, all of the top batsmen
have got the runs, with Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina as the two players
to look out for.
On the other hand, the Chennai Super Kings will be happy that the pitch at
the Wanderers will assist more spin than the one at Kingsmead. This will assist
their bowlers who have the likes of R Ashwin, Muthiah Muralitharan and Suresh
Raina - not to mention if Dhoni decides to include Shadab Jakati.
Chennai will be favourites to overcome the Warriors but they need to get Jacobs
out early.
