It will be the battle of two outfits separated by just over
200 km when Chennai Superkings come up against the Bangalore Royal
Challengers in the Indian Premier League. Despite heavy investments
by their patronises, the Royal Challengers and Chennai Superkings haven't quite
fired on all cylinders and will be looking to go gung ho for a victory this
coming Wednesday at the Chidabaram Stadium in Chennai.

Chennai Superkings were lucky to have secured a victory against the Kolkata
Knightriders when the match was evenly poised. However, a dropped catch by Dinda
proved pivotal as Chennai rode home on the Duck Worth Lewis rule for their seventh
win in eleven matches. Chennai now have to secure just a solitary win in their
remaining three matches to secure a semifinal place and the match against the
Bangalore Royal Challengers might just be the biggest opportunity to do that.
Chennai Superkings would be glad to see Stephen Fleming come back into form
after the New Zealand stroke maker struggled in alien conditions. With Mahendra
Singh Dhoni and Badrinath firing in the middle order, a score of 170 plus does
look eminently possible against a very poor Bangalore attack. The bowling will
be inspired by a brilliant spell from Makhaya Ntini last time around. The South
African spearhead ripped apart the Knightriders last time around with a sensational
hat-trick and he will be spearheading the attack this time around too as the
Superkings get ready to tie the noose on an ailing Bangalore Royal Challengers.
The Royal Challengers on the other hand have had a tournament
to forget as they turned from title contenders to bottom feeders in the space
of three weeks. Rahul Dravid has come under fir for selecting a team full of
test players and while the skipper has redeemed himself in recent weeks with
some blistering knocks, his side currently struggle at the bottom of the table.
The Royal Challengers have lost matches badly and it will be interesting as
to how much of a fight they can put up against an inspired Chennai Superkings
outfit who will be going all out for a victory. The likes of Jacques Kallis
and Misbah Ul Haq have had a woeful tournament so far and will be hoping
to go out on a high with some big hitting this time around. The Bangalore Royal
Challengers have lost eight of their ten matches so far with the last one coming
in an embarrassing 65 run loss to Rajasthan Royals. With pride to play for,
the Royal Challengers might just feel free to express themselves and they will
be hoping for a strong performance against the Chennai Superkings at the Chidabaram
stadium this coming Wednesday 21st May 2008.
