It will be the battle of survival when Delhi Daredevils take on Deccan Chargers
in the upcoming IPL cricket match to be held in Delhi.
Both these sides are among the lower movers of the league and much needs to
be done to improve their stature in the eight team table. With this match being
a must win for the Deccan Chargers for them to have any chance what so ever
of qualifying, expect fireworks to blow up when these two highly fancied sides
go up against each other.

The progress of Deccan Chargers has been a complete paradox and the side has
been in libido for a long time now. Two wins out of nine does not represent
a good success rate of any kind for a side that should be topping the tables
based on their talent. While their bowling has been a complete disaster so far,
individual batting performances have been a saving grace for the outfit with
Rohit Sharma and Adam Gilchrist topping the race for the Orange
Cap. However individual performances count for naught in a tournament where
team performances rule the roost and that is precisely why the Deccan Chargers
have been falling behind in the race for a semifinal spot. In their last outing
against the Kolkata Knightriders, they were let down by a poor bowling performance
which gave up a massive 204 runs which was always going to be too much to defend.
In the end, they fell thirty runs short of the target to lose their seventh
match out of nine. Deccan Chargers will also be without the services of India
test cricket batsman VVS Laxman as they look to salvage some pride with a win
over Delhi Daredevils.
A string of poor performances has seen the Delhi Daredevils slip down from
the top of the IPL table to the fifth place. They have lost their last four
matches on a trot and are currently on the worst run of form amongst all sides.
The major reason for their failures may be attributed to the lack of performance
by the fringe players as the top stars in Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir
and Mohammad Asif have all played to their fullest potential. The time is nigh
for the likes of Major Tewary and Sekhar Dhawan to stand up and be counted as
the IPL nears it business end. Delhi have now lost five and won four and did
themselves no favours last time around when they slipped up chasing a mere 133
against the Kolkata Knightriders. While an inform Sohaib Akthar may have been
too hot to handle for most sides, the number of reckless wickets and run outs
in the innings will harbour no excuses and much needs to be improved if they
are to continue their semifinal dream with a victory over hapless Deccan Chargers
this coming Thursday 15th of May 2008 at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi.
