Delhi Daredevils will play their last game and the penultimate game of the league
stage at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi and it will be against the Deccan Chargers.
The Daredevils are currently at 12 points from 12 games and so are the Deccan
Chargers and while it is not known whether the winner of the game will qualify
for the semi-final or no, but one can be sure about the fact the side losing
this game is most likely to crash out of the tournament.
Click for Live Score Card of Delhi Daredevils Vs Hyderabad Deccan ChargersThe Delhi Daredevils captain had been critical about the way in which
the Feroz Shah Kotla pitch had behaved and called it an unfit pitch. He also
said that he will prefer playing at venues away from home - Delhi - because
that would allow an equal opportunity to both, his batsmen and bowlers to win
the game.
However, given that this is the last game of the tournament and a rather important
one, at Delhi, it will augur well for Gambhir if he were to overcome the mental
block that he has against the pitch and play as if the issue is the same for
both the sides.
Having said that, there will be some tactical changes to be made as well; Daniel Vettori needs to get into the side and bowl, especially on a wicket that
holds a lot for the spin bowlers. Apart from that, it is evident that Andrew
McDonald has yet to come to grips with the Indian tracks and with the way in
which he was hit around, and the manner in which he batted, it looks likely
that he will be given the axe.
The Deccan Chargers will take heart from the previous year's game between Deccan
and Delhi. At that stage, it was the semi-final and the Delhi team were looking
the favourites, but one scintillating innings from Adam Gilchrist, changed
all of that. Given the pitch conditions and given the form of Gilly, it looks
like a repeat performance of last year's innings would be difficult, but I will
not discount someone else to repeat the job.
Harmeet Singh was the pick of the bowlers in the last game for the Chargers,
and I get the sense that he will be the man to watch out for. His slower ball,
leg-spinner, is a lethal weapon to have and will test the opposition on a track
that has been tailor-made for such bowling. And given that he is tad under-rated,
it could get interesting, the contest between Harmeet Singh and the Delhi
side.
