The Delhi Daredevils get set to take on the Rajasthan Royals in the first Indian Premier League semifinal this coming Friday in Mumbai. Both these sides have performed admirably in the group stages and the onus will be on Shane Warne and Virender Sehwag as they aim to be the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the inaugural Indian Premier League.

The Delhi Daredevils narrowly qualified to the semifinals thanks to a last ball mix up by the Mumbai Indians. Ironically, it is their semi-final opponents who saw them through by winning their match with Mumbai Indians. Delhi won seven on their fourteen matches while having one match abandoned due to rain. The Daredevils come into this clash on the back of a win against Mumbai and will be secretly confident on turning the tables over the Royals this time around. Much of Delhi's performance this time around will revolve around the likes of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. The Delhi duo have been brilliant all summer and are undoubtedly the in from opening pair of the Indian Premier League. Other notable performers in the batting line up include Dinesh Karthik and Sekhar Dhawan both of whom have done very well thus yet. However, it might just be their bowling which holds all the cards in the face of some strong hitting by Yusuf Pathan and Greame Smith. Glenn McGrath and Yo Mahesh are in fine fittle and with young leg spinner Amit Mishra coming into this own in recent matches, expect Delhi to fight the Royals to the wire in the first semifinal this coming Friday.

The Rajasthan Royals on the other hand come into this clash on the back of a rare loss against the Kings XI Punjab outfit last time around. Chasing a mammoth 221, the Royals fell 41 runs short and Shane Warne will be hoping that the bowlers can improve their performance this time around. Rajasthan Royals have undoubtedly been the star outfit of the tournament with eleven wins from fourteen and have star performers left and right. The likes of Yusuf Pathan and Shane Watson have evolved into exciting stroke makers through out the course of the tournament and with Sohail tanvir leading the pack with twenty one wickets from nine matches, the Royals will go into this match as firm favourites to win against Delhi Daredevils. The Royals have won one and lost one in meetings with the Delhi Daredevils so far in the IPL and will be aiming to take a lead over their rivals with a semifinal win this coming Friday 30th May 2008 in the Dr Y Patel stadium in Mumbai.
