England travel to new Zealand fresh from a long cricketing break after
five years and will be looking to begin proceedings on a high note with a victory
over the Black caps in the first of the two twenty twenty matches to be played
in New Zealand on the first week of February. Despite having a strong 20-20
domestic structure, the English have struggled in the shortest version of the
game and will be hoping that big hitters Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen can make their mark in this match.

England come into this series on the back of some mixed results both
at home and away and while they have been poor in tests and 20-20's over the
past one year, they have performed exceedingly well over the same time in One
dayers winning serieses against Sri Lanka, India and even the World Champions
Australia. England will be hoping that big hitters like Andrew Flintoff,
Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright can finally come into their own in this series
and give the English the best possible start in their quest to defeat New Zealand.
Tim Ambrose comes into this match in place of out of form Matt Prior and the
English selectors will be hoping that he can finally fill in for the boots of
the legendary Alex Stewart after four years of experimentation and failure with
other keepers.
New Zealand have been competitive in 20-20 cricket as illustrated by the appearance
in the semi-finals of the inaugural ICC World 20-20 championships in South Africa.
The Black Caps come into this series on the back of some wonderful performances
against Bangladesh in the recently concluded one day and test series against
their Asian opponents. With due respect to Bangladesh, New Zealand will
be however braced up for a much tougher challenge this time around and will
be hoping to give themselves a rousing start with a victory against England
in the first One dayer to be held at Auckland on the 5th of February.
