England will be looking to surmount their opponents, West Indies, once
again when the two teams meet in the second test starting from Friday at Trent
Bridge. England lead the three-match series after winning the Lord's test
by five wickets.
It was a familiar territory for England to return to winning ways after enduring
a difficult period in south Asia. The summer though started off on the right
note, presumably from where it ended last summer. Captain Andrew Strauss
would be relieved on two counts. First, the team returned to winning ways after
a bit of a struggle showing plenty of fight and character. In addition, he scored
his first test century in 18 months and hopes to make a big impact this summer.
His opening partner Alastair Cook will also be the key man after top
scoring in a testing run chase. Ian Bell made an impressive comeback
to the team with two half-centuries. The bowling department continues to do
its job with Stuart Broad picking up 11 wickets in the match, notching up his
career-best ICC Test Ranking in the process.

For the West Indies, they would feel they were once again within a chance and
fell short due to not making an impact at the right time. Shivnarine Chanderpaul
continues to hold the forte for them with scores of 87* and 91 in the last match.
The No. 1 ranked batsmen continues to extend his domination at the top of the
rankings. Marlon Samuels also made an impressive comeback to the test team with
86 but it is the first innings batting that needs to improve. Kemar Roach troubled
the batsmen with his bounce and pace, picking up six wickets and will have the
support of Fidel Edwards as well.
England have not lost a test match at Trent Bridge in nearly five years while
West Indies last played in a drawn match here back in 1995.
