England will take on West Indies in the 36th game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to be played at the Chepauk in Chennai. The contest is interestingly
poised in this Group B and will see the two sides look to ensure that they make
it to the quarter-finals through this game.
The points table is such that South Africa have eight points from five games,
India have seven from five, West Indies have six from four, England have five
from five and Bangladesh have six from five. This means that this is the last
game for England and if they lose this game, they are definitely out
of contention.

However, if they win the game, they will be up to seven points and West Indies will then have a game to play against India. This will mean that
England will still have a chance of going through to the next round.
West Indies have been quietly doing rather well in the competition, brought
about thanks to their games against the lesser teams. They have won three, against
the Irish, Dutch and the Bangladeshis and lost to South Africa. They have this
game against England which will be crucial to their team's chances, and given
the manner in which England have played so far, it looks like the things could
go right down to the wire.
England's performances in the tournament have been appalling. That they are
still alive in the tournament is because of that one moment of glory - against
South Africa. Apart from that, they have almost lost to Netherlands, tied with
India, lost to Ireland and then were beaten by Bangladesh as well which has
put them in a strange position.
What England have also missed is the consistency required thanks to the injury
issues. With Kevin Pietersen out and Stuart Broad following him, the side has
been left with no option but to go for the likes of James Anderson, who is struggling
to find form and the batting of the top order, which hasn't got any runs. Now,
the news that has filtered in is that the English captain Andrew Strauss and
their off-spinner Graeme Swann are down with a stomach ailment.
West Indies, on the other hand, have managed to improve after their first loss,
but how much of that is really worthy will be known after they play an opponent
of note. It will be an even contest with a potential of another cracking game.
