Spain played Paraguay in their quarter final match. This was a closely fought
game and it wasn't until the eighty-third minute that Spain managed to break the
deadlock. David Villa was able find the net and Spain guaranteed their
place in the semi finals. This will be the first time that Spain plays
in a semi-final of the FIFA World Cup; although they did make a final four
round-robin place in the World Cup back in 1950. The whole of Spain is fully behind
the team and you can expect a really spirited effort against Germany.
Germany played Argentina in their quarter final encounter and this turned out
to be a lot more one sided than anyone expected. Going into this match Argentina
looked unstoppable, but they were no match for Germany; in fact for much of the
game they looked outclassed. Germany opened the scoring in just three minutes
when Thomas Mueller found the back of the net. After this goal Germany managed
to keep Argentina on the back foot but it wasn't until the sixty-eight minute
when Miroslav Klose scored to put Germany ahead 2-0. The second goal opened
the floodgates and before the end of the match Arne Friedrich had scored and Miroslav
Klose managed to get on the scorecard again.
