Australia had a very poor start to their Group D campaign after getting hammered
4-0 by Germany. For much of the match the Australians looked like they wished
they were somewhere else, and by the time they had let the third goal get passed
them most of the viewers were wishing they were somewhere else as well. Australia
were underdogs coming into this competition but they will need to dig deep if
they are to save any face in this group. A win against Ghana would be a good way
to win back a bit of pride and could even lead on to better things.
Ghana faired a bit better than Australia in their opening match. They were up
against Serbia and managed to come away with a one goal win. Ghana deserved the
win here because although Serbia dominated for a lot of the match they failed
to take advantage of these chances. The second half saw a change of tactics by
Ghana and they were able to turn the tables on the Serbs. On paper this next match
against Australia should be an easy one for Ghana but you just can't tell
what's going to happen.
This next round of matches should give us a clearer idea about the way things
are going to pan out in Group D. This match between Ghana and Australia
will be worth watching and expect a bit more effort from Australia this time.
