The Highveld Lions will take on Guyana in the 14th game of the Champions League T20. Lions have won one game and lost game before this, whereas Guyana
have lost both their matches.
The situation in the Group B is such that South Australia have won both their
games and Bangalore has played one and won one. The two teams play on Friday
and based on that, things could change in the points table. If South Australia
won that game, they will be through to the semi-finals, while Bangalore will
be left with one win from two games - the same as Lions.
Click for Live Score Card of Highveld Lions Vs GuyanaMumbai Indians have one win from three games and have to play Bangalore next
up as well. Guyana has none from two, and have almost no outside chance
of making it through to the semi-final.
If Guyana beat Lions in this game, and that is a big if, then they will join
Mumbai Indians with one win from three games. Bangalore will have a game against
the Lions and Mumbai in hand in that case. If they lose both, then they will
be out and the team which has a better net run rate between Mumbai and Lions
will go through. If Bangalore win one and lose one, then they will tie with
the team that they lose to and the team with the higher net run-rate will go
through. By the virtue of their win over the Guyana with seven overs to spare,
they are in a great position with respect to their net run-rate.
Guyana's performance in the previous game against Mumbai was much-improved,
but it is difficult to see them win a game here. Their bowling is a tad weak
and will be a problem against a side which is so used to playing under the South
African conditions - given that this is their home and they have played a lot
of cricket here.
Fortunately for the Guyanese side, their batting showed marked improvement
in the Mumbai game. Ramnaresh Sarwan had a lot to do with the same, and
that will augur well for the side, given that it is the captain of the team
who is leading from the front.
What the Guyanese side probably needs is to juggle their batsmen around a bit
and get the better batsmen at the top of the order instead of someone like a
Travis Dowlin, who has been struggling to get a hold on his batting.
