Australia beat India in the sixth game at Guwahati to make the final game
at Mumbai turn into an inconsequential encounter. The Aussies have already won
the series 4-2, and a win here would ensure that India end with the same number
of wins as they had on Australia's previous ODI tour to India in 2007.
Having lost the series to Australia, both the sides could do some experimentation
for this game. For starters, India could include the youngster, Sudeep Tyagi,
who has had an amazing run of form in the first class and List A cricket and
does deserve a go. On the other hand, Ishant Sharma, who has had a break of
two games could also be back, and Ashish Nehra and Munaf Patel could be back
into the shed.
Click for Live Score Card of India vs AustraliaFrom the spinners' point of view, Amit Mishra does deserve a chance.
He would have looked around for six games, hoping for a chance, and it does
look like he could do with a go in this game. However, I would be very surprised,
if all the three changes are made to the side; Mishra looks to be a certainty,
while one of Tyagi or Sharma will make it to the side at the maximum.
Unfortunately, there is not much the Indians can do with the batting, except
give Virat Kohli another go. He has had a decent time at the number three
position, but has failed to convert starts into something big, despite looking
good for most part of his stint at the crease. Instead, one gets the feeling
that he could replace Suresh Raina in the side, and bat at number six,
where he would have to adapt to the situation.
The Aussies would be cock-a-hoop. They had come to India with a side which
has was already shorn of four major players, and lost five more during the series
- James Hopes, Brett Lee, Tim Paine, Peter Siddle and Moises Henriques.
This left them without too much ammunition and yet, with the advent of Doug Bollinger, the things turned around. The Aussie bowling looked slightly
more potent than the Indians and the narrow margin of victories also meant that
the Indians had failed to maintain their cool under pressure.
The most interesting bit about the game would be the fact that it would be
played at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. This is the first time an international
game will be played at this stadium, and it is a big achievement for a ground
where inter-collegiate games used to be played at one stage. IPL had seen some
games hosted on it and it looked to be an amazing experience watching the games
in this ground.
