India get ready to square up against Australia and continental
rivals Sri Lanka for VB Series honours, starting from Feb3. This
series coming on the backdrop of an edge to the seat test series which in which
Australia narrowly edged out India, partly due to some faulty umpiring decision
at Sydney and the Indian one day cricket side will be looking for retribution
in the upcoming series.

The Indian team will be undergoing quite a lot of changes
for the ODI team with youngsters like Robin Uthappa, Sreesanth and Gautam
Gambhir recalled back into the side in the place of Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid
and VVS Laxman. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be hoping for an inspired performance
against the Australians after the Indian cricket team fell flat in their
4-2 loss to the Aussies in the one day series at home. Piyush Sharma is recalled
back into the side at the expense of left arm spinner Murali Karthik and Yuvraj
Singh is expected to slot back firmly for the One day outfit. The Indian team
has been on a rough road in one dayers in recent times and will be looking to
transfer their 20-20 form into the One day setup when they meet up against World
Cup finalists Sri Lanka and Australia.
Despite losing 3-2 to England at home, Sri Lanka still posses one of the most
potent one day sides around in international. Sri Lanka had an impressive run
to the World Cup finals last time around and will be relying heavily on the
old shoulders of Sanath Jayasurya to give them the edge. Jayasurya who is the
oldest player around in world cricket right now will be itching to leave a mark
on what is expected to be his last tour down under. Sri Lanka have depth in
numbers in batting and bowling and Captain Mahela Jayawardene will be hoping
that the old front of Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan are ably supported
by the likes of Dilhara Fernando and upcoming tear away speedster Lasith Malinga.
Sri Lanka have developed a very potent bowling attack of late and will be looking
to capitalize on an inexperienced Indian batting line up to secure a place in
the finals of this annual competition.
Australia have always been firm favourites to lift the VB Cup
and have just lost it twice in the past decade. Their last slip up was against
England when a Paul Collingwood century help the English avert an all- Australian
rout. Australia will go into this tournament without the presence of keeper
Adam Gilcrhist who has retired from the game. However, the Australians have
an able replacement in the form of Brad Haddin who impressed everyone with his
batting abilities during Australia's last tour of India. Michael Hussey
and Ricky pointing add much needed solidity to the line up while the likes of
Andrew Symonds and Michael Clarke are renowned for their big hitting abilities
later on. The Australians will have an edge coming into this series having won
their four match test series and their mauling of Sri Lanka in the World Cup
final will give them an edge for this clash.
