Indian ODI cricket is on a bit of a roll after winning their last two
series against Pakistan and Australia. The latter in particular
was a momentous triumph for the Indian side and was testament as to how much
the men in blue have improved after their World Cup debacle a year ago. Mahendra
Singh Dhoni has in truth led the side by example and they certainly do look
to be in top notch form at the moment. In addition, the Indian cricket team
will also be looking to further the development of the likes of Yusuf Pathan
and Praveen Ojha both of whom will be making their ODI debuts following some
impressive performances in the Indian Premier League. Yusuf Pathan in particular
was the standout performer for the Rajasthan Royals and his performance
in the finals was enough to convince the selectors of his long standing ability.
There is some doubt on the availability of Sreesanth for this tour given his
recently sprouted back injury. However, in Praveen Kumar and Irfan Pathan the
Indian cricket team for once has the luxury of excellent back up fast bowlers
and they will be looking to give it their all when India takes the field against
Bangladesh this coming Tuesday,
Bangladesh have been dismal in One Day International cricket since the
World Cup in 2007 and confidence in the camp seems to have taken a huge dip
down after a brilliant World Cup where they want past the likes of India and
South Africa. Since then Bangladesh have lost five test matches and eleven one
dayers on a stretch despite winning the three match series against Ireland,
they resemble a side low on confidence and form. Their batting has remained
a big concern over the past one year with no one giving an able hand to Captain
Mohammad Ashraful. Ashraful himself hasn't been at the peak of his game and
considering how much the Bangladeshi's game revolves around the elegant right
hander, he will be hoping to strike form against India this coming Tuesday 10th
of June 2008 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
