India will be hoping to continue their fine recent form in
International cricket when they take on South Africa in the first of
the upcoming three match test series in Chennai on the 26th of March
2008.
This series pits the two inform teams in World cricket against
one other in what is expected to be a feisty affair. India come into
this series on the back of an out of the world cricket tour of Australia
and the improvements in the Indian side are there for all to see. India gave
Australia a good run for their money down under in their last series and were
rather unlucky to come out as 2-1 losers in a trip where they faced baptism
with fire. India however, followed that up with their first ever ODI Series
triumph in Australia for over 20 years and the Indian cricket team does look
to be in safe hands indeed.
South Africa like India, are on a spirited run and come into this series on
the back fo three straight series wins. After battering New Zealand at home
in the two match test series, South Africa completed a remarkable comeback against
West Indies coming from a test down to win 2-1 before routing them to a 5-0
One Day defeat in the one day series. South Africa then followed that victory
with a thrashing of Bangladesh and on current form, they can certainly lay claim
to being the go to side in international cricket surpassing the likes of Australia.
India will be missing out Ishant Sharma for this test
as the Delhi speedster is currently nursing a finger injury while the likes
of Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh retain their place despite some questionable
performances in the recent past in the test arena. South Africa on the other
hand have controversially omitted fast bowler Andre Nel from the line up and
much of the burden will have to shared by the likes of Makhaya Ntini and Dale
Steyn in this series. Anil Kumble has had a fine record in Chepauk in his playing
time and with the Indian test team hoping to emulate their one day success,
the Indian skipper will not be short of inspiration and desire heading into
the first test starting this coming Wednesday 26th March 2008 at the Chidambaram
Stadium in Chennai.
