India take on the West Indies in the seventh game of the Super Eight stage
of the ICC World T20, in a game that will be a must-win match for both the sides.
India were beaten hollow by the Aussies in the previous game and the West Indian
side were also handed over a drubbing by the Sri Lankans. This means that a defeat
in this game for either side will end their campaign for all practical purposes
unless there are some other, miraculous results going their way.
Click for Live Score Card of India Vs West IndiesThe Indians seemed to have made a tactical blunder by fielding first in the
previous game that they played in despite going in with a battery of five spinners
in their ranks. The West Indian side, on the other hand, were plain abysmal
in the manner in which they batted and bowled, and even their fielding let them
down because of the manner in which they dropped their catches.
All of that will need to change if both the sides need to remain in the competition.
India will need to bat much better than they did in the previous game. The
problem that they faced was that the batsmen just went for too many runs from
the word go, played too many strokes and in the end, were left dismissed in
the process. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, showed that the batsmen
could hold on to the first few deliveries and then, go on to make a lot of runs
in the process.
The other issue that the Indians had was with the selection itself. Playing
an extra batsman was never on, and they suffered in the field because of that.
That they went on to perform so miserably in the field was because the side
did not have more than 3 and a half frontline bowlers, and that caused much
problem to them on the field when the attack was on.
As compared to that, the West Indian bowling was flayed mercilessly by the
opposition. But that is usually the case when you keep dropping simple catches
as Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle did in the very start of the
innings and that is where they lost the game. Now, while I expect a very different
West Indian team to take field on Sunday for the game, it will need them to
field like tigers on a pitch that deserves that the bowlers get early wickets.
Between the two sides, I will put my money on India to win this game.
