Ireland will take on Holland in the second ODI of the two-match series at the
Clontarf Cricket Club Ground in Dublin. Ireland had won the first match
rather comfortably by a 70-run margin and this had followed the win in the Intercontinental
Cup, which had seen them rout the Dutch. This is probably the last chance that
Holland will have to avenge the successive defeats that the side has had to face
against Ireland.
Click for Live Score Card of Ireland Vs NetherlandsThe star of the previous game for Ireland was Gary Wilson, who slammed
a nice century - a 113 off 147 balls - and batted along for most part of the
innings. By the time he was out, there were only five overs remaining, and the
Irish side were able to get to 275 in their fifty overs. In reply, the Dutch
side were hardly able to get going and barring a 58-ball 68 by Tom Cooper,
the rest of the side capitulated to a 205 all out, to the bowling of Andrew
White who scalped four wickets. Kevin O'Brien had done the early damage with
three wickets off his eight overs.
The Dutch will need to go into the second ODI in a much more positive frame
of mind. For one, they will need to look to bat first after winning the toss
and see off the new ball. Once the ball begins to grow old, it becomes easier
to bat on the track and then the side can look to get to 250 and try and put
pressure on the more fancied Irish side.
In Eric Szwarczynski, they have a good opener, and if Tom Heggelman
can also prove that his selection is no flash in the pan by just batting through
the first 10-12 overs, life could be very different for the Dutch side.
Cooper's position at the number three is quite important, and he will be a
vital cog in the Holland team to allow them to get to the desired total.
With the track being used for two games in three days, it is evident that it
will help the spinners in the end, and a total of 250 will be very difficult
to chase.
Ireland, on the other hand, will need to make the most out of their domination
over the Dutch. They are batting and bowling well for now, and will need to
continue doing the same in order to win the series 2-0.
