The Kolkata Knight Riders will play the Chennai Super Kings in the 48th
game of the Indian Premier League. The two sides are evenly placed in the
tournament so far but the winner of this game will have a better chance of going
though to the next round of the tournament.
For now, both the sides have 12 points in the tournament so far. The Knight Riders
have played 10 games and won six out of them to have 12 points. The Super Kings
have played nine games and won the six matches which also gives them 12 points
but from nine games. What makes it interesting is that this year it is not only
finishing in the top four that counts but also about whether they can end in the
top two positions in the points table. If a team ends up being in the top positions,
then, they will have two chances at playing in the final.

Which means that if the Knight Riders lose this game, they will be left with 12
points from 11 games, and that would mean that they would need to win all their
remaining games to have a chance at getting to the 18-point mark and a chance
to end in the top two spots.
A Chennai win here will help the side get to 14 points from 11 games, a very good
show in the table. This will also mean that the side will then need to win only
two of their remaining games to have 18 points and thus, a chance to go through
to the next round at the top two spots.
The Super Kings will look to their top order to get going with the batting
as they have been for the rest of the tournament. Michael Hussey has
been in exemplary form, so is S Badrinath and the way they demolished the Rajasthan
Royals in the previous game was nothing short of marvellous.
The Chennai Super Kings also have the bowling to over-power the opposition.
In Doug Bollinger, they have a consistent bowler who can get the batsmen to
struggle with the bit. R Ashwin and Shadab Jakati have been doing a good
job too.
On the other hand, the Knight Riders have been good but their loss to Kochi last
game will hurt. They will look to their top-order to ensure that they can get
the runs.
