Kolkata Knight Riders is still a strong side on paper but yet lot more to prove
in the field. They were again beaten by Somerset CCC in their first encounter
after the qualifying round.
They were really hoping a win after putting up a fighting score on the board.
They did start the match slowly but increased the run rate when it was required.
Both Jacques Kallis and Yusuf Pathan played an extra ordinary
innings.
Kallis score unbeaten 74 runs while Pathan was also remained unbeaten scoring
39 runs while he hit 4 sixes in a row and KKR got 30 runs, highest run in a over
in champions League but it was not enough as they were unable to restrict their
opponent from scoring runs, especially Roelot van der Merwe who single handedly
snatched the match away from them. He did get a breakthrough at the later stage
of the game but it was too late.
So, from now on they should be more careful about their bowling attack. It
has been proved so ineffective while their batsmen did a pretty good job. They
also have to think how they should start the game against South Australian Redbacks because when they start slow it is really very slow and they also
keep losing wickets of their top orders when they go for a flying start. But
their main concern should be their bowling attack, legendary bowler Wasim Akram
must bring out something special from them before it is too late.
Like Kolkata Knight Riders, South Australian also did lose their first match.
In fact they were humiliated by their opponent Western Warriors by 50 runs. They
have to improve a lot more than KKR to beat KKR.
They have only one recognized bowler Shaun Tait who has been smashed
53 runs from his four overs. So, one off day of Shaun Tait is a big loss for
them and this could end up a defeat against KKR which has been lurking for a
win.
KKR have proved themselves a batting side than a bowling side so Redbacks might
make some changes in their bowling attack. Some might say they are still an
unbalanced side as they lack at least one pace attack. Their batting also has
to improve a lot. Putting up a small score or chasing a big score against KKR
will not work. Their skipper Michael Klinger who has just scored 34 runs
in their last match must lead Redbacks from the front more effectively.
Each team is likely to win three matches to qualify for the next level, semi-final
of the tournament. Both teams have lost their first game and they will be trying
their best to go to the next level but KKR seemed well on track than their opponent
Redbacks. So, it is expected to be another thriller of Champions League
Twenty20 2011.
