The Kings XI Punjab will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in the PCA Stadium
in Mohali. Both the teams have found going difficult in the tournament, and will
look to start notching up wins by their side. Punjab has played five games, and
have won only one match so far - a tied encounter against Chennai which they should
have actually lost. As compared to that, the Kolkata Knight Riders won
their first two games, but then lost to Chennai, Mumbai and Rajasthan.
Click for Live Score Card of Mohali Punjab Kings Vs Kolkata Knight RidersThe issues that have been haunting Punjab right throughout the competition
remain still the same. Even in the game against the Rajasthan Royals yesterday,
they failed to get going with the bat, and this was despite the good start that
the top three batsmen had provided them with. What will be worrying Kumar Sangakkara
apart from Yuvraj Singh's inability to score the runs, is his indifferent attitude
towards the whole affair surrounding the team. One must remember that Yuvraj Singh had been the captain of the side for the last couple of years but
was displaced by Sangakkara this year, and it is evident that the displacement
seems to rankle Yuvraj.
As compared to that, the other batsman who has looked woefully out of touch
is Mohammad Kaif. He has struggled, scraped around and the effect has
shown in his fielding as well, and there is a good chance that he will be dropped.
However, the selection woes for the Punjab captain do not end there. For one,
there is Brett Lee waiting to make a comeback. And then, there is Shaun Marsh.
Both the players could be drafted in to the side to get some sort of an incision
going for them, but the question then remains is which two foreign guys will
go out of the side. There is a good chance that Mahela Jayawardene could be
one of those who could be shown the door, but it is evident that the side will
have a new look if both Lee and Marsh will be in.
Kolkata could make changes to their team as well, but more than changes they
needed a power-packed opening pair. Chris Gayle could be excused for
batting a tad slower in the first game but he caught up later, but it was Sourav
Ganguly's batting that was a concern. It will be interesting to see the position
at which he bats himself in the game against Punjab.
