A six-wicket win on Sunday gave Kings XI Punjab their third win from
seven matches, and are currently second from bottom on the points table. They
were able to chase down a challenging target of 164 with three balls to spare.
The run chase was powered by Shaun Marsh whose 68 runs came off 40 balls. Once
again, he will be expected to spearhead the batting unit in the absence of the
injured captain Adam Gilchrist. The bowlers will be looking to come into
their own after struggling to pick up wickets with only Praveen Kumar
and Parvinder Apanna picking up two wickets each. Azhar Mahmood, the former
Pakistani all-rounder, has failed to impress with the ball in his two matches
so far and will be hoping to make amends.
Mumbai Indians have lost two matches in a row that has left them with three
wins from six matches, and are reeling in seventh place on the points table.
Their defeat against Kings XI Punjab came against all odds and they themselves
were taken by a surprise. They will be hoping to improve, and plenty of expectations
will be attached with Kieron Pollard who is fighting for consistency.
Sachin Tendulkar made a return from injury but looked sluggish, though
the experiment to use James Franklin at the top of the order worked with 51-ball
79. Munaf Patel, and the rest of the team, will have to be careful after disciplinary
reports against them by the umpires have left Mumbai Indians at the bottom of
the Fair Play Award points table.
The match will start in Mohali at 4.00pm.
