England will take on the Kiwis at St. Lucia to decide which team will go through
to the semi finals of the tournament, but a lot of it will also depend on the
result of the game between Pakistan and South Africa.
England go into this game, after having played two matches in the Super Eight
stage and winning both of them. Hence, their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals
despite losing to New Zealand are very happy. However, they will need
to look at their net-run rate as well. If Pakistan beat South Africa in the
first game of the day, it will mean that irrespective of what happens in this
game of the tournament, England will be through to the semi-finals of
the tournament.
Click for Live Score Card of New Zealand Vs EnglandFrom the New Zealand perspective, it is known that for one, they need to wait
for the result of the game between South Africa and Pakistan. If South Africa
win, they will need to win the game as well to have a chance to go through.
However, if Pakistan win, New Zealand can afford to lose as well, but a loss
could also kick them out of the tournament.
England has been on a roll, but the fact of the matter is that they need to
overcome the absence of Kevin Pietersen, who left for England for the
birth of his child. This will allow England to make a change to their batting
line-up and will need the side to get in an extra batsman and Ravi Bopara could
get the nod ahead of the rest.
However, it will be the combination of Eoin Morgan and Paul Collingwood
who would be the ones to look out for as the side looks to play out the first
few overs.
For New Zealand, they seemed to have got the combination right in the previous
game, as the side went in with Kyle Mills in place of the bits and pieces cricketers
like Jacob Oram. One gets the sense that the same is going to repeat
in this game as well, as Mills did a decent job, as did the rest of them who
were in the bowling.
