Pakistan will be aiming to continue their record breaking eleven match winning
streak when they come up against Bangladesh in the first one dayer of the
Kitply three nations cricket tournament that also involves regional cricket heavyweights
India. Pakistan are on a hot run of form and it will be interesting
to see how they cope up with some major bowling changes when they face home outfit
Bangladesh this time around.

Pakistan come into this clash on the back of two consecutive 5-0 whitewashes
over Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Granted that these two sides may not quite
make the cut for the best ODI sides around the world, but beating them
so comprehensively will give Sohail Malik and his troops a lot of confidence
coming into this clash with Bangladesh. Pakistan have never lost an ODI outing
to Bangladesh since the 1999 World Cup and the Bangladesh cricket team will
be hard pressed to break the run this time around. Pakistan will however have
to cope up with the absence of star bowlers Sohaib Akthar and Mohammad
Asif for this tri series. While Akthar is currently serving a five year ban
for indiscipline, Asif is currently in detention in Saudi Arabia over possible
drug abuse. In their absence, much of the brunt will have to be taken up by
the pair of Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul. Sohail Tanvir in particular was impressive
during the recently concluded Indian Premier League and his 22 wickets played
a huge part in the Rajasthan Royal's success in the tournament. One player in
particular who will be hoping to strike back with vengeance will be Shahid Afridi
who has been a bit out of sorts in recent matches, The belligerent all rounder
had an IPL tournament to forget and expect Afridi to make a telling statement
this time around.
Bangladesh on the other hand, have had a story of doom and despair so far this
year and things look to be going from bad to worse for the Asian outfit. Bangladesh
did lose their last ten matches on the trot before winning 3-0 against Ireland
and the fact that they are unable to make a fight out of those matches against
other test playing nations will be troubling skipper batsman Mohammad Ashraful
no end. . However, Dave Whatmore and his troops remain optimistic of better
results at home against the Pakistan cricket team. Bangladesh have been decent
at home and though they are yet to register a one day victory against any of
their Asian rivals at home r performances at home have been much more convincing
as compared to their away day blues. Much of Bangladesh's hopes will depend
on the top order batting of Skipper Mohammad Ashraful along with the
swing and pace of Mortaza as the Asian lions look to put one across their Asian
rivals Pakistan in the first one dayer to be held at the Shere Bangla National
stadium this coming Sunday 8th of June 2008.
