Mumbai Indians get set to take on the IPL league leaders in their home
turf with the knowledge that anything but a win could spell doom for the costliest
franchise of the tournament. The Mumbai Indians have won six out of their
twelve matches so far and will need a positive result in this clash to keep
their qualification prospects in their own hands when they come up against the
rampaging Rajasthan Royals challengers in the soaring heat at Jaipur
this coming Monday.

Mumbai Indians have lost a bit of their form in the previous two matches after
winning six matches flat. Although the batting still reeks confidence and class
all round, the bowling has left a lot to be desired and the absence of Dwayne
Bravo is sorely felt by all. The West Indian all rounder who is wrecking havoc
with the Australian test cricket batting line up in the Caribbean was instrumental
in Mumbai's success and his replacement Andre Nel will have a lot to prove this
time around against the Royals. The batting on the other hand looks to be their
biggest asset with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasurya
in fine fettle. Jayasurya in particular has been in devastating form of late
and he will be hoping to retain his personal record of the maximum number of
sixes in the tournament with a few more this time around. However, the middle
order is still wobbly and will be hoping that Robin Uthappa and Abhisekh Nayar
can strike up a strong big hitting partnership in the middle that will help
them wade through murky waters. Mumbai Indians are currently fifth in the table
and victory here will see them carry the fight into the very last game of the
Indian Premier League.
The Rajasthan Royals have undoubtedly been the biggest surprise of the tournament
and are currently riding high with ten victories from their twelve matches so
far. Despite having fewer big names in their line up as compared to the other
sides, the Royals have won most of their matches with pomp and are riding on
a crest of confidence. Shane Warne has galvanised the side to great effect
and the force of the champion leg spinner is evident in their performances.
Their last clash against the Chennai Superkings was a firm evidence of how far
the Royals have progressed in recent time. Batting first, the Royals put up
a marvellous batting performance with the likes of Kamran Akmal and Greame Smith
putting up fine individual performances to take the Royals sailing over the
200 run mark. Shane Warne has been instrumental in the transformation of bowlers
like Sohail Tanvir and Shane Watson and that was evident when Sohail
picked up a brilliant four-wicket haul to derail the Royals batting line up.
The Rajasthan Royals have already flattened the ambitions of the Kolkata Knightriders
and the Chennai Superkings in their last two clashes and will be hoping to do
the same for the Mumbai Indians at their home turf the Sawai Man Singh stadium
in Jaipur this coming Monday 26th May 2008.
