CCC vs Trinidad and TobagoSomerset played a good first game against the Deccan Chargers. They did not have any standout batsman, and even their best performance came from a number
nine, Alfonso Thomas, who incidentally did well with both, the bat and the ball.
Marcus Trescothick continues to remain a threat, and on a Bangalore wicket
on which the ball seems to be coming on to the bat more than the rest, he should
be a good bet to come good.
Justin Langer's batting may not be suited for this format of the game, but
his captaincy will be something that the Somerset side will look up to.
Amongst the bowling, Charl Willoughby is a good left-arm pace bowler,
whereas Peter Trego did well in the previous game as well, to ensure that the
opposition did not run away from them in the middle overs. This means that the
side will be decently well-balanced. The one thing that could hurt them is complacency.
For the Trinidad and Tobago, there is a lot at stake for them apart from the
prize money. With the crisis that the West Indies side is going through,
it is only evident that a strong performance by the TT side will ensure that
it goes a long way in getting cricket back to normal in the region.
And they have the ammunition to do so. In Dwayne and Darren Bravo, they
have two really talented youngsters who can do a good job with the bat and ball
in their hands. They will be followed by the likes of Lendl Simmons, Denesh Ramdin and some others who have already done well for their international
side, and now will have the chance to repeat that dose in the Champions League.
It should get interesting, because Somerset knows that a loss here will end
their chances to get into the next round.
