We have waited for a long time and here it comes; the epic clash of the titans.
Many people with sports knowledge will tell you that there is not much to choose
between no.1 and no.2 in almost every sport. Such is the case with these two teams.

India and South Africa are evenly matched opponents. The conditions
would be slightly different from Middle East and Subcontinent, where the two
teams have playing off late. The first Test starts at Centurion on 16th December,
same day as the third Ashes Test. What a delight for any cricket fan, two grand
Tests starting on the same date.
South Africa had a disappointing series against Pakistan in humid conditions in
UAE. They were held in both Tests, hence failing to live up to their reputation
as no. 2 ranked Test team in the world.
Despite that, South Africa would be backing themselves to win at centurion
where they have according to their coach, prepared very self suitable wicket.
There have been injury concerns leading up to the first Test on Thursday. Graeme
Smith the captain is still in doubt, but Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn and
Jacques Kallis are all fit to play and will take part in Thursday's game.
Ryan Mclaren has been added to the squad which toured against Pakistan. There
are great expectations from Styen and Morne Morkel, who form a lively pace bowling
attack. The wicket is going to be pacey as South Africa have included only one
spinner, Paul Harris in the 12 man squad.
South Africans have always fancied challenging the teams on top spots and they
would be thrilled with having a go at India.
South Africa have won two of their last five Tests and drawing rest.
For India this can be the toughest series they have played in a while. When
you look at their statements and body language, they seem a touch nervous as
well. Gary Kirsten the coach and Gautam Gambhir have given reassuring
statements in which they have declared that they can win this series.
Is it confidence or self assurance out of nervousness? We are just about to
find out. India know that if they can cross this obstacle they would
well and truly be no.1, and everybody is expecting hard fought encounters.
South Africa hasn't been a happy hunting ground of Indians, they haven't won
a series here and Sachin Tendulkar averages below 40 in this country. Still,
facts are facts and they are in the past. Zaheer Khan is in doubt for
the first Test, but India's bowlers have done well recently even without him.
India have won three of their last five Tests with drawing two.
