What everyone believed to be impossible has indeed happened. Sri Lanka go into
the final test of a test series in South Africa with any of the three series-results
possible. After scoring their first win on South African soil, the Lankans will
be high on confidence when they clash with the home side at Cape Town from Tuesday.
South Africa will be hoping to put the Durban defeat behind them - a ground
that has mostly been jinxed for them. At Kingsmead, they registered their lowest
total against Sri Lanka. And another batting collapse in the second innings
translated into a heavy defeat. While the selectors have resisted making wholesale
changes to the squad, the batsmen know the responsibility lies on them to ensure
a repeat does not happen. Jacques Rudolph and Ashwell Prince have struggled
all season while Jack Kallis bagged a pair in the last test match. Captain Graeme Smith has looked off-color himself. In such a situation, plenty will depend
on Hashim Amla's consistency.

Amongst the bowlers, last-minute debutant Marchant de Lange impressed with
seven wickets, but an overall team effort was missing from the last match. Dale Steyn is back amongst the wickets and will be hoping to head the bowling
fortunes.
Sri Lanka celebrated one of the most memorable wins in style. After a pathetic
nine months after the World Cup, the victory was just what the team needed.
Yet its business time now. Captain Tillakaratne Dilshan will be telling
his players to continue with the disciplined performance. Thilan Samaraweera
and Kumar Sangakkara scored centuries. Mahela Jayawardene will be hoping to
improve on his poor record in the country. With the ball, Rangana Herath
was the unlikely hero. However, given his form, Lankans will be keen on exploiting
the Proteas' vulnerability to spin bowling.
The two sides played a test match at this venue 11 years ago when Sri Lanka
were thumped by an innings margin.
