South Africa and West Indies get ready to go head on in the first one
dayer of the MTN South African West Indies cricket series after an enthralling
three match one day series which ended in a 2-1 triumph for South Africa. South
Africa and West Indies have both done well in their recent one day matches
and with the confidence of the West Indies cricket team regained after their
combative showing in the recently concluded test series this series looks all
set to capture the attention of cricket lovers throughout the world
The first one dayer comes on the back of a 20-20 tie between these two sides
and both these sides will be eager to get quickly out of the blocks. South Africa
have won their last two one day series against New Zealand and
Pakistan comprehensively and with Shaun Pollock playing his last series,
they will be hoping to give the veteran a fitting farewell with a series victory.
South Africa will be going into this match with their pace battery stronger
than ever before due to the excellent form of tear away fast bowler Dale Steyn
who has picked up wickets aplenty in the previous two series against West Indies

West Indies have won their previous two one day series against Zimbabwe
and England and while they continue to struggle in test matches, their
one day form has taken a turn for good. West Indies reached the finals of the
ICC Champions Trophy last year and will be encouraged by their strong
showing in the test matches where they gave the South African cricket team a
run for their money. The West Indies one day side will be severely depleted
by the absence of Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan who have been ruled out of
the upcoming series with different injuries. However in Shivnarine Chanderpaul
and Marlon Samuels they have the two most inform batsmen in world cricket and
Captain Dwayne Bravo will be hoping that his troops can start off the
one day series in the same way they started the Test matches.
