Sri Lanka come into this clash on the back of a surprise win
against India in Canberra in a rain interrupted clash. It wouldn't be
totally out of context to say that Sri lanka were rather helped by the Duckworth
Lewis rule as they had to chase down only 154 from twenty one overs and with
Sanath Jayasurya still having the same hand eye coordination that made him such
a huge success early on in his career, Sri lanka reached the target in
a jiffy courtesy of some mighty blows by Jayasurya coupled with an efficient
fifty from Tilakaratne Dilshan. That result has put Sri Lanka
within a single win of achieving group leader status and with the Australians
tired and jaded after a long winter so far, Sri Lanka will fancy their chances
of putting one past the World Champions in Perth. Sri lanka are expected to
play a pace dominated attack on a bouncy Perth and given India's recent win
over Australia in Perth, the Sri Lankan cricket outfit will be confident of
repeating the achievements of the men in blue.
On the other hand, Ricky Pointing and his men have a lot to
prove after a poor batting show left them down in their last outing against
India at the MCG. The quick pace and movement of speedster Ishant Sharma did
the trick as the Delhi quickster was instrumental in getting the Aussies shot
down for merely 159. While the Australia still hold a fine net run rate, the
highly demanding Australian cricket fans will be hoping for better performances
by the Australians in this swansong CB Series competition. Brad Haddin is expected
to make way for James Hopes primarily on the account of the latter's bowling
abilities while Phil Jacques is in line for Matthew Hayden who is due to pass
a late fitness test for this battle against Sri lanka at the Perth this
upcoming Friday 15th February 2008 at the WACA in Perth.
