For
modern test matches limitation of time is five days but it didn't take not more
than four days to thrash Sri Lanka in Galle though rain washed away a lot
of time of the first test match of three matches series between Sri Lanka and
Australia.
Australia beat Sri Lanka comprehensively by 125 runs with one day to spare.
The wicket was made for the spinners but Sri Lanka were unable to take the advantage at home because they were missing their legendry bowler Muttiah Muralitharan. Batting first Australia scored only 273 runs.

Everyone thought Sri Lankan bowlers had done a great job but while batting they
couldn't put up a good total. They were all out for only 105 runs. So, Australia
got a lead of 167 runs. Then Australia started their second innings. Sri Lankan
bowlers tried hard and soul to limit their lead. Australia scored 210 runs and
threw a challenge of 379 runs to the host.
379 runs is a very big total for any team in the world in the fourth innings.
So, it was assumed that game was over.
As there was rain factor included so there was a chance of draw if Sri Lanka
could hang on. Sri Lanka started losing wickets but Mahela Jayewardene
didn't give up. He tried to hold on as long as possible and later on he also
got a partner Mathews who was supporting him very well.
They made a partnership of 142 runs and were facing the Australian very well but
it came to an end when Harris who got five wickets in the second innings contributing
a lot for this win got his man Jayewardene who scored crucial 105 runs. Then the
party started one again for Australia.
Matthews couldn't score not more than 95 runs when he lost his stump to Shane Watson. Finally it was a very comprehensive win for Australia.
The second Test will be played in Pallekele on September 8 at 10:00 IST or 4:30
GMT. Australian skipper has already declared that he wants to win the all three
matches when he expressed his opinion to Sydney Morning Herald newspaper.
He also added that the XI will not be the same; he will be keep changing according
to the condition. Ricky Ponting who has just made a record of being the
first player in the history of test cricket to achieve 100th win will be replaced
by Shaun Marsh as he is going to Sydney for the birth of his second child but
he will be back before the 3rd test on September 16.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka must strike now. They have nothing to lose. They
must upgrade especially their batting quality.
Prediction: Both teams will be craving for victory but when the Australia
is in full swing it is very difficult to stop them so there is a very little
chance of turning the tables on.
Sri Lanka will look to bounce back for a win when they play Australia in the
second Test.
Australia need to get going on a much-quicker looking Pallekele wicket for the
second Test.
