India
take on the West IndiesThe penultimate game of the Super Eights stage of ICC World
T20 will see the Indians take on Sri Lanka at St. Lucia. The game will
decide which of the two teams will go through to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Click for Live Score Card of Sri Lanka Vs India Australia has two wins from two games, Sri Lanka and West Indies, both have
one win from two games, whereas India have none from two. Now, if India beat
Sri Lanka and Australia beat West Indies, there will be a three-way tie between
India, Sri Lanka and West Indies for the second spot. This will mean
that the net run-rate will come into picture and hence, the teams will need
to be wary of that. On the other hand, if India loses to Sri Lanka, then, they
are out of the tournament, and in all probabilities, Australia and Sri Lanka
will go through to the next round.
India's problems have been thanks to the pace and the lack of handling capabilities of
the same. This means that the side has almost been bundled out of the tournament
thanks to the manner in which the batsmen have handled the bowling, hopping and
jumping their way through to a struggling total. The captain of the Indian
side could take some of the blame for the fact that the side has struggled given
that, for some reason, he has been winning the toss and electing to field first.
without any pace attack in the side, it is a surprise that he has been doing that,
and the result of that has been that in both the games the bowlers have been getting
smacked around and that has put too much pressure on the batsmen. However,
it will be no surprise that he may want to field again in this game, given that,
to get the net run-rate above the Sri Lankan one, India need to beat them by either
20 runs or with 15 balls to spare. So, if India bats first, and is able to get
to more than 180, then they may have a chance, but the better way of going about
it may just be to field first, restrict the opposition and then get the sore in
17.3 overs.
Sri Lanka does possess a good battery of fast and spin bowlers, but the absence
of Muttaiah Muralitharan will hurt them a lot. Muralitharan had earlier
been declared unfit but recovered miraculously, before hurting his groin again
and will now be sent back to Sri Lanka
