India play Sri Lanka in the third and the final Test match to be played at the PSS in Colombo. Sri Lanka leads the series 1-0 and will look to win the
game here to not only win the series but also go up to the number one position
in Test cricket. A 2-0 result will give Sri Lanka the number one position whereas
a 1-1 or 1-0 result will ensure that the Indians will continue to be the number
one side in the Test world.
Click for Live Score Card of Sri Lanka Vs IndiaGiven by what has happened in the series so far, it is difficult to see how
India can win a Test match. Because, to win a Test match, the side will
need to capture 20 wickets and to get 20 wickets they need good bowlers. unfortunately,
so far, if the Indian bowling is anything go by, then, it will be rather difficult
to expect them to get rid of the 20 opposition wickets.
For one, their pace bowlers have been military-medium on the tracks of Sri
Lanka, where it is difficult to expect them to generate pace. Having said that,
the spinners have fared no better. They have struggled to pick up the wickets,
and someone like Harbhajan Singh, who was supposed to lead the Indian
bowling attack has had only one wicket to his name after bowling many, many
overs in the two Test matches.
Fortunately for the Indians, the batting came really good in the second Test
match, as they ensured that the side got to a score of 700 runs. This allowed
the bowlers to remain in the dressing for the best part of two and a half days
and think about how would they go about their business.
Sri Lanka will be happy that they are still leading 1-0, but would be thinking
that they made a mistake by changing the bowling line-up so much. After all,
they had lost two bowlers from the previous game, but changed all their four
bowlers, including Chanaka Welegedara, who seemed to have bowled well
in the previous game. Getting in Dammika Prasad could have been avoided
in the hindsight.
The Sri Lankan batting has not failed so far in the series, but they will need
to guard against that. They can hardly afford to be complacent about the same
and winning the series will be paramount for them.
