The first of the three games at Colombo SSC was affected by the rain. No result
was possible. The series may be heading for a similar fate as the Test series
between the two teams in November, due to which the current series was postponed
until January.
But it seems that the postponement may not have much effect. The weather at
Colombo continues to be tricky and we are not sure if the second game will be
shortened or even abandoned, it will take place of February 3. The frustrating
weather is ruining both teams preparation for the World Cup later this
month.

Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakarra branded the recent Test series as
the worst of his life. All three Test matches were drawn and little play was
available due to rain. The postponed one day series is shaping up to be a similar
affair.
Sri Lanka's progress however has been serene in the last couple of years. They
are surely heavy favourites for the series but their focus would not be the
series win it will be the preparation of the World Cup which is to be played
on their own soil. Sri Lanka didn't get a chance to bat in the first
game and their bowling was decent but not up to the mark.
Sri Lankan bowlers would be desperate for a chance to improve their performance
in seaming friendly conditions. The second game on Thursday would be an ideal
setup if the weather doesn't intervenes.

West Indian coach Ottis Gibson was thrilled to play a series in subcontinent
before the World Cup. He and West Indies will have their fingers crossed, hoping
they can play as much cricket as possible.
The joy for West Indies came in the form of young opener Adrian Barrath's century,
who continues to impress in both forms of the game. The other relief came in
the form finding 75 by Ramnaresh Sarwan who was returning to international
fold after a year. West Indies did get a chance to bat all 50 overs but the
game was abandoned after that. West Indian batting put up a good show and their
bowlers would be hoping to get a crack on Thursday's second encounter. This
is a new look West Indian team who is craving to improve their record as West
Indies have not won an ODI since April.
West Indies have not won any of their last five completed games.
