The first Test match at Galle was surprisingly dominated by the touring West Indies.
The Test match was marked by a magnificent triple century by former West Indies
captain Chris Gayle. This series has started a new era for West Indies
cricket, under new leadership and other shakeups. Sri Lanka on the other
hand were not bad with the bat but overall would look to bounce back in the Colombo
Test which starts on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka were the favorites before the series started by have been rather
surprised by West Indies. Their captain Kumar Sangakkara have given all the
due respect to 'Windies', saying that he was not much taken aback by West
Indies performance as they are a capable team. Sangakarra also said that
he wants the bowlers to perform better, since bowling looked toothless in the
first Test. This Test series continues to indicate that Test cricket is not
on the priority list of many teams. Sri Lanka has rested their key bowler Lasith
Malinga for World Cup. Batting hasn't been a big problem for Sri Lanka recently
and they would be hoping that it stays that way. Their key batsmen are in good
form, Jayawardene knocked half century in each of the innings while Tharanga
Paranavitana also impressed alongwith the captain himself, Samaraweera and Dilshan.
Sri Lanka have been successful in one of their last five Tests.
West Indies came to this series as heavy underdogs but have surprised everyone.
Chris Gayle would in basking in confidence after he played of the innings of
his life at Galle. West Indies batting dominated the Lankans completely. Conditions
are expected to be slightly different in Colombo where the bowlers would get
swing and spin, not bounce though. The bowling wasn't quite what West Indies
would have liked to complement Gayle's innings. Shane Shillingford who has been
reported for having a suspect action was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.
The off spinner will however take part in the second Test. The other itching
factor on selector's minds would be a nothing performance from the new captain
Darren Sammy, who was out for a golden duck in the only innings West
Indies batted and didn't take a wicket in the 20 overs he bowled. Adrian Barrath
would be hoping to add to his good performance. Brendon Nash has also found
form and would be hoping to take in into the 23rd November's game.
West Indies have not won a single Test out of their last five.
