The Zimbabwe cricket team will be finally making their tour to Pakistan
despite all the security concerns owing to the turmoil state of Pakistani politics
at the moment Pakistan has plunged into another political turmoil after the
assassination of Benazir Bhutto and most International sides including Zimbabwe
and Australia were on the verge of canceling or postponing their scheduled tours
of Pakistan. However in what is welcoming news for Pakistan cricket Zimbabwe
have agreed to continue on their tour to Pakistan, albeit with a slightly modified
itinerary.
The itinerary has been tweaked and one warm-up match dropped, but the tour
will have five one day matches as planned earlier and Zimbabwe will be hoping
to make amends for their disappointing show against the Windies at home. The
first match has been shifted to Karachi from Hyderabad, a place badly hit by
the post Benazir-assassination violence. However, Hyderabad will host the second
one dayer with the he remaining matches will be played in Multan, Faisalabad
and Sheikhupura, between January 21 and February 2.
Zimbabwe cricket team come into his series on the back of some mixed performances
against the West Indies. Zimbabwe won the first one dayer convincingly
only to lose the next three and ended up losing the series to the West Indian
cricket team 3-1. Zimbabwe will be banking to captain Prosper Utseya to guide
his young troops consisting of some bright talents in batsman Sean Williams
and wicketkeeper Brendan Taylor to at least ensure some sort of respectability
for this series.
Pakistan will be hoping for some morale boosting performances in their upcoming
one dayers after a miserable tour of India. Pakistan were outplayed by the Indian
side in both the one dayers and test matches and this series against a struggling
Zimbabwe couldnt have come at a better time for a Pakistan side that lost
its previous home series against South Africa in both the test and one day formats.
Pakistan will be monitoring the progress of Shoaib Akhtar who will be
leading the front line with Mohammad Asif for the upcoming tour.
