The second game of the Champions League T20 will be played between Wayamba Elevens and the Warriors at Port Elizabeth. Warriors are playing in the tournament
for the first time, whereas the Wayamba side had featured in the tournament last
year as well. However, Wayamba had lost both their games in the previous match
and crashed out of the tournament in the first round itself.
Warriors:
On paper, the Warriors are one of the strongest sides in the competition.
Not only is the side replete with international cricketers, but they will also
have the advantage of playing at home given that they play most of their games
at the Port Elizabeth in South Africa.
Click for Live Score Card of Warriors Vs Wayamba ElevensSpeaking of the side, they are being led by Davey Jacobs, but more importantly
have a barrage of experience going for them. Amongst the batsmen, it is the
captain Jacobs, apart from Ashwell Prince and Mark Boucher who will carry
the flame, but it is the bowling which is the stronger of the two suits for
the Warriors. They have Makhaya Ntini, Nicky Boje and Johan Botha, propped up
by the presence of Garnett Kruger and Juan Theron.
Clearly, for the opposition to score the runs, it will need a really concerted
effort.
Wayamba:
Wayamba may be a decent side after having won two successive T20 tournaments
back home and convincingly at that but the fact that remains is
that the conditions back home are very different. Sri Lanka, as a country, has
found it difficult to bat in South Africa and in Australia and struggled
to get a move on something that could be a problem for the Wayamba side
as well.
The team is led by Jehan Mubarak, and one of their most experienced batsmen
is Mahela Jayawardene. Apart from him, there are the likes of Mahela
Udawatte and Thisara Perera, who can tonk the ball hard, but it will need them
to get used to the really alien conditions in South Africa, to be able to do
that.
It is the bowlers of the Wayamba side that excite one. There is Farveez Maharoof
and Chanaka Welegedara to start off with, apart from Perera himself, who had
got a five-wicket haul against India.
Apart from that, both Ajantha Mendis and Rangana Herath are the part
of the side and should make it easier for the bowling department.
Time and Venue:
The game is a Group A encounter and will be played on September 101 at the
Port Elizabeth. The match is a day game, starting at 1.30 pm local time.
