Pakistan look to further their lead in the five matches Pakistan
Zimbabwe one day series when they square up against their African cricketing
rivals in three days time at Hyderabad. Hyderabad was initially chosen
to be the venue for the first one dayer but was later designated to hold the
second one dayer in order to give the city time to recover from post Benazir
Bhutto murder riots. Pakistan lead the series 1-0 courtesy a crushing 104 run
victory over the Zimbabwe cricket team in the first ODI held at
Karachi.

Pakistan have selected youth over experience for this series
and the move of selecting youngsters like Kamran Hussain, Nasir Jamshed
for this clash paid rich dividends as a young Pakistan lineup milked an inexperienced
Zimbabwean bowling attack for a massive total of 347. Nasir Jamshed was the
star show of the Pakistan batting lineup as he hammered a quick fire 61 off
just 47 balls to set the platform for the likes of Mohammad Yousuf and Younis
Khan to take Pakistan to an imposing target. Pakistan bowlers were taken to
the cleaners early on by some stunning counter attacking display by Vusi Sibanda
who hit a sparkling 59. However, his dismissal put the breaks on the scoring
rate as Pakistan romped to a convincing 104 run victory to take a 1-0 lead in
the series,
Pakistan cricket would be hoping to get some pride back after a torrid three
months in which they lost to India and South Africa and were looking for some
dire need of changes. Zimbabwe on the other hand, are on the mark for a possible
revival and much of the African nation's fate in the next year or so will depend
on this critical five match one day series, the second of which begins this
Thursday.
