Australia will be hoping to wrap up the five match West Indies Australia
ODI series by winning the fifth match at Basseterre this coming Sunday
6th July 2008 to register a clean sweep over much weakened West Indies. Australia
already lead the series 4-0 and having already won the test series earlier,
yet another successful tour of the Caribbean is on the cards for the Baggie
Green. Australia have restored credibility after their loss to India in the

The fourth one dayer held at Basseterre proved testament to the incredible
fighting abilities of the Australian team. With the Windies needing just over
thirty-five runs to win in under seven overs, things looked down and dusted
for the Australian cricket team. However, a brilliant spell of fast bowling
later on coupled with some sensation fielding by the likes of Michael Hussey
who picked up one of the catches of year helped Australia peg the Windies down
to eight runs from the last over. It was here that Shane Watson shoed
his tremendous improvement in recent months as he delivered six balls on the
spot to help Australia notch up a one run victory over their rivals.
Australia will be extremely happy with their performance in all their matches
so far. While the mainstays of the batting such as Andrew Symonds and Michael
Hussey have played up to expectations, the form of Michael Clarke and Shane
Watson has been particularly impressive. The Western Australia all rounder who
had a brilliant tourney with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier
League has been outstanding in the previous two matches with a century and a
brilliant last over to deny the Windies victory in both these matches, Other
plus points for the Australians will include the consistently brilliant bowling
performances of Nathan Bracken. The lanky left armer has established a place
for himself in the starting eleven with his fine brand of swing bowling and
his performance should hold key to Australia's quest for a clean sweep this
time around.
West Indies on the other hand, will be devastated on losing out of the very
last ball against the Australians last time around. The Caribbean giants looked
to have proceedings under control but for a calamitous last five overs, which
saw them grasp defeat from the jaws of victory. While the absence of Marlon
Samuels due to suspension has certainly weakened the batting line up, the likes
of Xavier Marshall and Dwayne Bravo have added pressure to the
old warguards of Gayle and Chanderpaul with their inept performances so far.
Chris Gayle looked in majestic touch for his 82. The bowling however, has been
a huge sign of concern for the West Indies with the likes of Jerome Taylor and
Ravi Rampaul well below their potential. The West Indies have lost their last
seven matches on a trot against the Australians and it will take a brave man
indeed to bet against the plot shifting when Australia take on West Indies this
coming Sunday at the Basseterre Oval in the Caribbean islands.
