The Central Districts Stags will meet the Wayamba Elevens at St. George's
Park, Port Elizabeth in match 19 of the Airtel Champions League. This is another
one of the meaningless encounters between two sides for which the tournament
was over a long time back. This tie, is however will decide who will finish
at the bottom of the table of Group A.

Both sides have had disappointing tournaments. They have lost all the games
that they have played in and occupy the last two places in the table. Wayamba
have been the worst of the two teams. Their top order batting has been a letdown
in this tournament. They were all out for 103 against the Chennai Super Kings
chasing a big score and in the next game against the Victoria Bushrangers were
bundled out for a paltry 106 batting first.
The worry for them is that their batting has been deteriorating as the tournament
has gone on. They have failed to adjust to the conditions and the way their
middle and lower orders went down like a pack of cards in the last game would
be a worrying sign.
The Central Stags have other problems, though. Their batting has been
alright and have managed to post decent totals in two of their games. Jamie
How, their captain is the second leading runs scorer in the tournament with
178 runs and two half centuries. It is their inexperienced bowling that has
caused them trouble. They started well against the Chennai Super Kings and restricted
them to just 151. But in the following games, they have failed to defend some
good totals posted by their batsmen.
The match should be exciting though. For the first time in the tournament, the
Wayamba batsmen would be facing some inexperienced bowlers and will have a chance
to have a go at them. Likewise, the Stags bowlers will also be facing some inexperienced
batting and should be a lot relaxed.
Jamie How would like to continue his good form against the Wayamba bowling
that has been ordinary thus far. Ajantha Mendis has been very economical
but has not been able to pick up wickets. Using him as an attacking option has
not worked. The fast bowlers have been the most disappointing. Chanaka Welegadare
and Thissara Perera have not been able to make any early in roads and have not
bowled well at the death.
Based on recent form, the Stags will start as favorites.
